RESUMO

The ripening characteristics after capping of honey are favourable for improving its quality. However, research on the variation and formation of aroma characteristics of honey in this process is lacking. Therefore, the present study was carried out with different stages of Rhus chinensis honeys (RCHs) after capping and identified 192 volatiles with varying levels of concentration. "Fruity" was the main aroma characteristic of RCHs at different stages after capping, mainly contributed by (E)-ß-damascenone. Methyl salicylate might be a potential indicator for differentiating RCHs at different stages after capping. The metabolic pathway analyses revealed that the aroma compounds in RCHs undergo transformation at different stages after capping, which subsequently affects its aroma characteristics formation. This work is the first to study the dynamic changes in honey aroma characteristics after capping from multiple perspectives, and the results are of great significance for understanding the aroma characteristics after capping and quality control of honey.

To investigate the association between serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels, inflammatory cytokines, and cognitive function to assess their utility in the early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 157 community-dwelling individuals aged 55 years and above, categorized into healthy controls, MCI, and probable Alzheimer's disease (AD). Serum levels of NfL, inflammatory cytokines, and AD pathology markers were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Correlations between these biomarkers and cognitive function were analyzed, and the diagnostic performance of the cognitive assessment scales and serum biomarker concentrations was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Serum NfL levels were significantly elevated in MCI and probable AD groups compared to healthy controls. Positive correlations were found between serum NfL and inflammatory cytokines IL-1ß, IL-6, and Aß40. Combining serum NfL with p-tau217 and the Boston Naming Test significantly enhanced the predictive accuracy for MCI. However, combining serum NfL with inflammatory markers did not improve MCI prediction accuracy. Elevated serum NfL is associated with cognitive impairment and inflammatory markers, suggesting its potential as a peripheral serum biomarker for MCI detection. The combination of serum NfL with p-tau217 and cognitive tests could offer a more accurate prediction of MCI, providing new insights for AD treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND: To develop a deep learning(DL) model utilizing ultrasound images, and evaluate its efficacy in distinguishing between benign and malignant parotid tumors (PTs), as well as its practicality in assisting clinicians with accurate diagnosis. METHODS: A total of 2211 ultrasound images of 980 pathologically confirmed PTs (Training set: n = 721; Validation set: n = 82; Internal-test set: n = 89; External-test set: n = 88) from 907 patients were retrospectively included in this study. The optimal model was selected and the diagnostic performance evaluation is conducted by utilizing the area under curve (AUC) of the receiver-operating characteristic(ROC) based on five different DL networks constructed at varying depths. Furthermore, a comparison of different seniority radiologists was made in the presence of the optimal auxiliary diagnosis model. Additionally, the diagnostic confusion matrix of the optimal model was calculated, and an analysis and summary of misjudged cases' characteristics were conducted. RESULTS: The Resnet18 demonstrated superior diagnostic performance, with an AUC value of 0.947, accuracy of 88.5%, sensitivity of 78.2%, and specificity of 92.7% in internal-test set, and with an AUC value of 0.925, accuracy of 89.8%, sensitivity of 83.3%, and specificity of 90.6% in external-test set. The PTs were subjectively assessed twice by six radiologists, both with and without the assisted of the model. With the assisted of the model, both junior and senior radiologists demonstrated enhanced diagnostic performance. In the internal-test set, there was an increase in AUC values by 0.062 and 0.082 for junior radiologists respectively, while senior radiologists experienced an improvement of 0.066 and 0.106 in their respective AUC values. CONCLUSIONS: The DL model based on ultrasound images demonstrates exceptional capability in distinguishing between benign and malignant PTs, thereby assisting radiologists of varying expertise levels to achieve heightened diagnostic performance, and serve as a noninvasive imaging adjunct diagnostic method for clinical purposes.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects up to 13% of the Chinese population, though it is under diagnosed throughout China. Screening among asymptomatic individual as part of routine health checks in China can facilitate early diagnosis and intervention to prevent disease progress. The COPD Population Screener (COPD-PS) or COPD Screening Questionnaire (COPD-SQ) has yet to be applied in Chinese physical examination centers (PECs) for COPD screening, and their feasibility and effectiveness should be clarified before full-scale implementation. This study is the first to apply the COPD-PS and COPD-SQ in a public hospital PEC in China to assess their feasibility and effectiveness and to identify their optimal cutoff values. Methods: People aged ≥40 years who attended the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University PECs from September 2021 to December 2022 were asked to complete the COPD-PS and COPD-SQ and to undergo spirometry. The optimal cutoff values of the two questionnaires at the maximal Youden index were found, and the sensitivity and specificity were calculated. Results: Data from 198 participants were analyzed; mean [standard deviation (SD)] age of patients was 63.52 (10.94) years. Twenty-five participants (12.63%) were diagnosed with COPD. The number of COPD patients classified as Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) grades 1 to 4 were 8, 12, 4, and 1, respectively. The area under the curves (AUCs) of the COPD-PS and COPD-SQ were 0.730 and 0.738, respectively. The optimal COPD-PS cutoff value of 4 points corresponded to a sensitivity of 72.00% and a specificity of 60.10%. The COPD-SQ optimal cutoff value of 15 points corresponded to a sensitivity of 76.00% and a specificity of 63.60%. Conclusions: Applying the COPD-PS and COPD-SQ in Chinese PECs is feasible, cost-effective and effective. COPD-PS and COPD-SQ can facilitate the early diagnosis of COPD, and whether they can improve the participants' quality of life would benefit a further study. It is recommended that the COPD-PS or COPD-SQ questionnaires be added to the screening of the physical examination program in PECs as part of health checks for people over 40 years old.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to synthesize zinc-incorporated nanowires structure modified titanium implant surface (Zn-NW-Ti) and explore its superior osteogenic and antibacterial properties in vitro and in vivo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Zn-NW-Ti was synthesized via displacement reactions between zinc sulfate solutions and the titanium (Ti) surface, which was pretreated by hydrofluoric acid etching and hyperthermal alkalinization. The physicochemical properties of the Zn-NW-Ti surface were examined. Moreover, the biological effects of Zn-NW-Ti on MC3T3-E1 cells and its antibacterial property against oral pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans) compared with sandblasted and acid-etched Ti (SLA-Ti) and nanowires modified Ti (NW-Ti) surface were assessed. Zn-NW-Ti and SLA-Ti modified implants were inserted into the anterior extraction socket of the rabbit mandible with or without exposure to the mixed bacterial solution (S. aureus, P. gingivalis, and A. actinomycetemcomitans) to investigate the osteointegration and antibacterial performance via radiographic and histomorphometric analysis. RESULTS: The Zn-NW-Ti surface was successfully prepared. The resultant titanium surface appeared as a nanowires structure with hydrophilicity, from which zinc ions were released in an effective concentration range. The Zn-NW-Ti surface performed better in facilitating the adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells while inhibiting the colonization of bacteria compared with SLA-Ti and NW-Ti surface. The Zn-NW-Ti implant exhibited enhanced osseointegration in vivo, which was attributed to increased osteogenic activity and reduced bacterial-induced inflammation compared with the SLA-Ti implant. CONCLUSIONS: The Zn-incorporated nanowires structure modified titanium implant surface exhibited improvements in osteogenic and antibacterial properties, which optimized osteointegration in comparison with SLA titanium implant surface.

Cell-free RNA (cfRNA) allows assessment of health, status, and phenotype of a variety of human organs and is a potential biomarker to non-invasively diagnose numerous diseases. Nevertheless, there is a lack of highly efficient and bias-free cfRNA isolation technologies due to the low abundance and instability of cfRNA. Here, we developed a reproducible and high-efficiency isolation technology for different types of cell-free nucleic acids (containing cfRNA and viral RNA) in serum/plasma based on the inclusion of nucleic acids by metal-organic framework (MOF) materials, which greatly improved the isolation efficiency and was able to preserve RNA integrity compared with the most widely used research kit method. Importantly, the quality of cfRNA extracted by the MOF method is about 10-fold that of the kit method, and the MOF method isolates more than three times as many different RNA types as the kit method. The whole transcriptome mapping characteristics of cfRNA in serum from patients with liver cancer was described and a cfRNA signature with six cfRNAs was identified to diagnose liver cancer with high diagnostic efficiency (area under curve = 0.905 in the independent validation cohort) using this MOF method. Thus, this new MOF isolation technique will advance the field of liquid biopsy, with the potential to diagnose liver cancer.

With the rapid development of e-health and telemedicine, previous studies have explored the relationship between physician-patient communication and patient satisfaction; however, there is a paucity of research on the influence of the characteristics of patient communication on the characteristics of physician feedback. Based on the communication accommodation theory, as well as the computer-mediated communication theory and media richness theory, this study aimed to explore how characteristics of patient communication influence characteristics of physician feedback in online health communities. We employed a crawler software to download the communication data between 1652 physicians and 105,325 patients from the Good Doctor platform, the biggest online health community in China. We built an empirical model using this data and employed a multilevel model to test our hypotheses using Stata and Python software. The results indicate that the amount of patients' rendered information positively influences the physicians' text (α = 0.123, t = 33.147, P < .001) and voice feedback (ß = 0.201, t = 40.011, P < .001). Patients' hope for help signals and the provision of their electronic health records weaken the effect of the amount of patients' rendered information on physicians' text feedback (α = -0.040, t = -24.857, P < .001; α = -0.048, t = -15.784, P < .001), whereas, it strengthened the effect of the amount of patients' rendered information on physicians' voice feedback (ß = 0.033, t = 14.789, P < .001; ß = 0.017, t = 4.208, P < .001). Moreover, the occurrence of high-privacy diseases strengthened the effect of the amount of patients' presented information on physicians' text and voice feedback (α = 0.023, t = 4.870, P < .001; ß = 0.028, t = 4.282, P < .001). This research contributes to the development of computer-mediated communication theories and sheds light on service delivery in the online health community.

The purpose of this study is to explore a storage solution for titanium implants and investigate its osteogenic properties. The commercial pure titanium (cp-Ti) surface and double-etched (SLA) titanium surface specimens were preserved in air, saline, 10 mM Vitamin C (VitC)-containing saline and 100 mM VitC-containing saline storage solutions for 2 weeks. The surface microtopography of titanium was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the surface elemental compositions of the specimens were analyzed by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and water contact angle and surface roughness of the specimens were tested. The protein adsorption capacity of two titanium surfaces after storage in different media was examined by BCA kit. The MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts were cultured on two titanium surfaces after storage in different media, and the proliferation, adhesion and osteogenic differentiation activity of osteoblasts were detected by CCK-8, laser confocal microscope (CLSM) and Western blot. The SEM results indicated that the titanium surfaces of the air group were relatively clean while scattered sodium chloride or VitC crystals were seen on the titanium surfaces of the other three groups. There were no significant differences in the micromorphology of the titanium surfaces among the four groups. Raman spectroscopy detected VitC crystals on the titanium surfaces of two experimental groups. The XPS, water contact angle and surface roughness results suggested that cp-Ti and SLA-Ti stored in 0.9% NaCl and two VitC-containing saline storage solutions possessed less carbon contamination and higher surface hydrophilicity. Moreover, the protein adsorption potentials of cp-Ti and SLA-Ti surfaces were significantly improved under preservation in two VitC-containing saline storage solutions. The results of in vitro study showed that the preservation of two titanium surfaces in 100 mM VitC-containing saline storage solution upregulated the cell adhesion, proliferation, osteogenic related protein expressions of MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts. In conclusion, preservation of cp-Ti and SLA-Ti in 100 mM VitC-containing saline storage solution could effectively reduce carbon contamination and enhance surface hydrophilicity, which was conducive to osteogenic differentiation of osteoblasts.

BACKGROUND: Due to the difficulty of pathological sampling, the clinical differentiation between benign and malignant biliopancreatic diseases remains challenging. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is used to investigate biliary diseases, enabling the collection of bile. This study assessed potential metabolic alterations in biliopancreatic malignancies by exploring changes in the bile metabolome and the diagnostic potential of bile metabolome analysis. METHODS: A total of 264 bile samples were collected from patients who were divided into a discovery cohort (n = 85) and a validation cohort (n = 179). Untargeted metabolomic analysis was used in the discovery cohort, while targeted metabolomic analysis was used in the validation cohort for further investigation of the differentially abundant metabolites. RESULTS: The untargeted metabolomic analysis revealed that the metabolic changes associated with biliopancreatic malignancies occurred mainly in lipid metabolites, among which fatty acid metabolism was most significantly altered, and differentially abundant metabolites identified in the discovery cohort were mainly enriched in unsaturated fatty acid synthesis and linolenic acid synthesis pathways. Analysis of free fatty acid (FFA) metabolism in the validation cohort revealed that the FFA levels and related indicators verified the abnormal fatty acid metabolism associated with biliopancreatic malignancies. The combined model for biliopancreatic malignancies based on the fatty acid indexes and clinical test results improved the diagnostic performance of current clinical level. Then, we used machine learning to define three different FFA metabolic clusters of biliopancreatic malignancies, and survival analysis showed significant differences in prognostic outcomes among the three clusters. CONCLUSIONS: This study found metabolic alterations in biliopancreatic malignancies based on bile samples, which may provide new insights for the clinical diagnosis and prognostic assessment of biliopancreatic malignancies.

UBR5 is a HECT domain E3 ubiquitin ligase that is frequently amplified in breast, ovarian and prostate cancers. Heightened UBR5 expression plays a profound role in tumor growth through immune-dependent mechanisms; however, its mode of action in driving tumor metastasis has not been definitively delineated. Herein, we used a tetracycline (Tet)-inducible RNAi-mediated expression silencing cell system to investigate how UBR5 enables postsurgical mammary tumor metastatic growth in mouse lungs without the continuous influence of the primary lesion. In vitro, Ubr5 knockdown induces morphological and molecular changes characteristic of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). In vivo, UBR5 promotes lung metastasis in an E3 ubiquitin ligase-dependent manner. Moreover, doxycycline-induced UBR5 expression knockdown in metastatic cells in the lungs, following removing the primary tumors, resulted in increased apoptosis, decreased proliferation and prolonged survival, whereas silencing the expression of cell division cycle 73 (CDC73), a tumor suppressor and E3 ligase substrate of UBR5, reversed these effects. Transcriptome analyses revealed a prominent role of the p53 pathway in dovitinib-induced apoptosis of tumor cells differentially regulated by UBR5 and CDC73. In human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patient specimens, a strong inverse correlation was observed between UBR5 and CDC73 protein levels, with reduced CDC73 expression at metastatic sites compared to primary lesions. Furthermore, a xenograft model of human TNBC recapitulated the metastatic properties and characteristics of the unique UBR5-CDC73 functional antagonism. This study reveals the novel and critical roles and intricate relationships of UBR5, CDC73 and p53 in postsurgical breast cancer metastasis and indicates the potential of targeting this pathway in cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Aroma is one of the most important quality criterion of different honeys and even defines their merchant value. The composition of volatile compounds, especially the characteristic odor-active compounds, contributes significantly to the aroma of honey. Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss) Benth honey (ERBH) is a special honey in China with unique flavor characteristics. However, no work in the literature has investigated the volatile compounds and characteristic odor-active compounds of ERBHs. Therefore, it is imperative to conduct systematic investigation into the volatile profile, odor-active compounds and odor properties of ERBHs. RESULTS: The characteristic fingerprint of ERBHs was successfully constructed with 12 characteristic peaks and a similarity range of 0.785-0.975. In total, 297 volatile compounds were identified and relatively quantified by headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry, of which 61 and 31 were identified as odor-active compounds by relative odor activity values and GC-olfactometry analysis, respectively, especially the common 22 odor-active compounds (E)-ß-damascenone, phenethyl acetate, linalool, cis-linalool oxide (furanoid), octanal, hotrienol, trans-linalool oxide (furanoid), 4-oxoisophorone and eugenol, etc., contributed significantly to the aroma of ERBHs. The primary odor properties of ERBHs were floral, followed by fruity, herbaceous and woody aromas. The partial least-squares regression results showed that the odor-active compounds had good correlations with the odor properties. CONCLUSION: Identifying the aroma differences of different honeys is of great importance. The present study provides a reliable theoretical basis for the quality and authenticity of ERBHs. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is a widely used brominated flame retardant; however, it is a persistent organic pollutant as well as affects the human thyroid hormones and causes cancer. However, the degradation of HBCD has received little attention from researchers. Due to its bioaccumulative and hazardous properties, an appropriate strategy for its remediation is required. In this study, we investigated the biodegradation of HBCD using Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 under optimized conditions. The Box-Behnken design (BBD) was implemented for the optimization of the physical degradation parameters of HBCD. S. oneidensis MR-1 showed the best degradation performance at a temperature of 30 °C, pH 7, and agitation speed of 115 rpm, with an HBCD concentration of 1125 µg/L in mineral salt medium (MSM). The strain tolerated up to 2000 µg/L HBCD. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis identified three intermediates, including 2-bromo dodecane, 2,7,10-trimethyldodecane, and 4-methyl-1-decene. The results provide an insightful understanding of the biodegradation of HBCD by S. oneidensis MR-1 under optimized conditions and could pave the way for further eco-friendly applications. Dendropanax dentiger honey (DDH) is a specialty herbal honey from China. Previous research on DDH has mostly focused on its composition and potential chemical markers, no studies have been conducted on the changes in aroma characteristics and chiral odorants during its maturation. Therefore, the present study aims to address the missing parts. The proportions and total concentrations of 185 volatile compounds identified in different classes varied with DDHs ripening. Fourteen common odor-active compounds were identified by odor activity values (OAVs) and GC-olfactometry (GC-O) analysis. The aroma profiles of DDHs were observed to vary at different ripening stages, although the dominant aroma characteristic was "fruity" aroma, which became more pronounced with increasing maturity. The enantiomeric contents and distributions of 7 volatile enantiomers were related to specific physicochemical indicators and the maturity of DDHs, among which the enantiomers of linalool oxide A may be a potential indicator to identify its maturity. Furthermore, precise quantification and OAVs calculation showed that the enantiomer (2S, 5S)-linalool oxide A presented the highest concentration (8.83-27.39 ng/mL) and only the enantiomer R-linalool (OAVs: 5.56-6.14) was an important contributor to the aroma profiles of DDHs at different stages of maturity. These results provided a new research idea for quality control and identification of DDHs at different maturity stages.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) caused by rotavirus (RV) remains a public health issue in China. To accelerate the mass rotavirus vaccination, it is important to inform the policy maker, and the public of the economic burden caused by rotavirus infection. A meta-analysis was conducted applying standardized algorithms. Articles published before January 1, 2023, in English and Chinese were searched through PubMed, CNKI, and WanFang Data. Studies with cost analysis of RV AGE were included. A random-effects model was applied to synthesize the total cost of RV AGE from the societal perspective. A prospective survey aimed to measure the cost of RV AGE was conducted in 2021 and 2022 in Shaoxing city, Zhejiang province, that can represent the developed region. The cost data was applied as deviation indicator, in comparison with the pooled estimate generated from meta-analysis. Totally 286 articles were identified, and eventually 12 studies were included. The pooled total social cost of RV AGE was US$282.1 (95%CI: US$213.4-350.7). The pooled private cost of RV AGE was US$206.4 (95%CI: US$155.2-257.5). RV AGE hospitalized and RV AGE incurred in developed regions caused remarkable higher burden (US$631.2 [95%CI: US$512.6-749.8], and US$333.6 [95%CI: US$234.1-433.2] respectively), compared to RV AGE treated at outpatient, and incurred in less developed regions. Our study demonstrates that RV AGE causes a significant economic burden in China. Given the promising effectiveness and highly cost-effective, introduction of rotavirus vaccines in national immunization programs could substantially reduce the economic burden in China.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a global health problem in which gut microbiota dysbiosis plays a pivotal pathogenic role. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) therapy has emerged as a prospective novel tool for managing IBD, and which can also regulate the composition of gut microbiota. However, the functional significance of MSCs-induced changes in gut microbiome is poorly understood. METHODS: Here, we investigated for the first time the role of gut microbiota in mediating the protective effect of human umbilical cord MSCs (HUMSCs) on DSS-induced colitis. Gut microbiota alteration and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production were analyzed through 16S rRNA sequencing and targeted metabolomics. Spectrum antibiotic cocktail (ABX), fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and sterile fecal filtrate (SFF) were employed to evaluate the protective effect of intestinal flora and its metabolites. Cytokine microarray, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and flow cytometry were conducted to assess the effect on CD4+T homeostasis. RESULTS: Here, we investigated for the first time the role of gut microbiota in mediating the protective effect of MSCs on DSS-induced colitis. By performing gut microbiota depletion and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) experiments, we revealed that MSCs derived from human umbilical cord ameliorated colon inflammation and reshaped T-cells immune homeostasis via remodeling the composition and diversity of gut flora, especially up-regulated SCFAs-producing bacterial abundance, such as Akkermansia, Faecalibaculum, and Clostridia_UCG_014. Consistently, targeted metabolomics manifested the increased SCFAs production with MSCs administration, and there was also a significant positive correlation between differential bacteria and SCFAs. Meanwhile, combined with sterile fecal filtrate (SFF) gavage experiments, the underlying protective mechanism was further associated with the improved Treg/Th2/Th17 balance in intestinal mucosa mediated via the increased microbiota-derived SCFAs production. CONCLUSION: The present study advances understanding of MSCs in the protective effects on colitis, providing evidence for the new role of the microbiome-metabolite-immune axis in the recovery of colitis by MSCs.

N4-Acetylcytidine (ac4C) has been found to affect a variety of cellular and biological processes. For a mechanistic understanding of the roles of ac4C in biology and disease, we present an antibody-free, fluorine-assisted metabolic sequencing method to detect RNA ac4C, called "FAM-seq". We successfully applied FAM-seq to profile ac4C landscapes in human 293T, HeLa, and MDA cell lines in parallel with the reported acRIP-seq method. By comparison with the classic ac4C antibody sequencing method, we found that FAM-seq is a convenient and reliable method for transcriptome-wide mapping of ac4C. Because this method holds promise for detecting nascent RNA ac4C modifications, we further investigated the role of ac4C in regulating chemotherapy drug resistance in chronic myeloid leukemia. The results indicated that drug development or combination therapy could be enhanced by appreciating the key role of ac4C modification in cancer therapy.

As an essential micronutrient for humans, the metabolism of copper is fine-tuned by evolutionarily conserved homeostatic mechanisms. Copper toxicity occurs when its concentration exceeds a certain threshold, which has been exploited in the development of copper ionophores, such as elesclomol, for anticancer treatment. Elesclomol has garnered recognition as a potent anticancer drug and has been evaluated in numerous clinical trials. However, the mechanisms underlying elesclomol-induced cell death remain obscure. The discovery of cuproptosis, a novel form of cell death triggered by the targeted accumulation of copper in mitochondria, redefines the significance of elesclomol in cancer therapy. Here, we provide an overview of copper homeostasis and its associated pathological disorders, especially copper metabolism in carcinogenesis. We summarize our current knowledge of the tumor suppressive mechanisms of elesclomol, with emphasis on cuproptosis. Finally, we discuss the strategies that may contribute to better application of elesclomol in cancer therapy.

Objective: To examine the role of night shift work on the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in adults suffered from earthquakes prenatally or as infants and to analyse the effect of stress on factors that influence MetS in this population. Methods: We included 870 subjects from 2014 to 2015. All subjects work as miners for the Kailuan Mining Group and were born were living in Tangshan. Participants were classified into two groups on basis of their work schedules: day shift and night shift. They were further classified into the prenatal exposure group, the infancy exposure group, and the control group based on their age during the Tangshan earthquake. This study was conducted 38 years after the earthquake. Participants' general demographic data, smoking and drinking habits, as well as work schedules were collected. All participants' sleep status was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The measurement of all subjects' waist circumference and blood pressure was made, and triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, high-density lipoproteins, and low-density lipoproteins were measured by collecting blood samples. The definition of MetS was made after the guidelines for preventing and controlling type 2 diabetes in China (2017 Edition). Results: A total of 187 (21.5%) workers were determined to have MetS. The incidence of MetS was greatly higher in night shift workers who were exposed to an earthquake during infancy than in day shift workers (χ2 = 8.053, p = 0.005). A multivariate logistic regression analysis displayed male participants had a higher risk develop MetS than female participants (p = 0.042, OR = 0.368, 95% CI = 0.140, 0.965). Current smokers (p = 0.030, OR = 1.520, 95%CI = 1.042, 2.218) and participants who sleep fewer than 7 h per night (p = 0.015, OR = 1.638, 95%CI = 1.101, 2.437) had a higher risk of MetS. Prenatal earthquake stress was also a risk element for MetS (p = 0.012, OR = 1.644, 95%CI = 1.115, 2.423). Conclusion: The risk of MetS is significantly higher in night shift workers exposed to earthquake stress during infancy than day shift workers. Earthquake exposure during pregnancy is an independent risk factor for MetS. Smoking and sleeping less than 7 h have a higher risk of MetS than the control group.

As an important part of regional coordinated development, the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin has become a national strategy. It is imminent for resource-based cities to perform a high-quality transformation. The analysis of carbon emission efficiency in the Yellow River Basin includes the examination of spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and the main driving factors. This is done by utilizing the super-efficiency SBM-DEA and panel Tobit regression models, with the assistance of night light data. Our findings are as follows: (1) Carbon emissions continue to grow. The "Jiziwan" basin is an area where plenty of high-emitting cities agglomerate. The carbon emission of resource-based cities presents a W-shaped pattern in time. (2) In time, the carbon emission efficiency follows a U-shaped curve. Spatially, the carbon emission efficiency in the middle reaches is comparatively low, whereas it is relatively high in both the upper and lower reaches. And that in high carbon-emitting resource-based cities are in the low to medium range. (3) Carbon emission efficiency has a significant negative relationship with energy intensity, urbanization rate, and population density and a significant positive relationship with industrial proportion. Energy intensity is the most direct driving force. That is to say, we can increase carbon emission efficiency effectively by reducing energy intensity.

Compared with conventional drilling (CD), ultrasonic vibration-assisted drilling(UVAD) is experimentally proven a promising method to reduce the cutting temperature. But sometimes cutting temperature also becomes higher in UVAD than in CD. To further make clear the cutting temperature mechanisms in UVAD, this study aims to study the effect of tool's ultrasonic vibration on the cutting heat generation and heat dissipation at a relatively micro level. Firstly, drilling experiments are designed to explore the variations of cutting heat under different ultrasonic vibrations. Then, to analyze the influence of ultrasonic vibration on the cutting heat theoretically, a kinematic model is developed to describe the dynamic contact between the cutting edge and workpiece in UVAD. Besides, a cutting heat analysis model based on the contact characteristics in UVAD is proposed to study and compare the variations of cutting heat generation. The effect of ultrasonic vibration on the cutting heat generation, heat dispassion, and the resultant cutting temperature under different machining in UVAD conditions are discussed. It is indicated from the theoretical analysis that more cutting heat tends to be produced due to the significantly increased sliding velocity on the cutting edge-workpiece interface when the ultrasonic vibration is applied. The analysis agrees with the experimental results that the cutting temperature in dry UVAD is higher than in dry CD. But on the other hand, ultrasonic vibration can also improve the lubrication and cooling effect under appropriate machining conditions, which is beneficial to the reduction in cutting temperature. The investigation shows the multifaceted influences of ultrasonic vibration on the cutting temperature in the drilling process in detail, which provides a reference for UVAD parameter optimization.
